What's the talk about?

When you see someone experiencing pain do you feel that pain on your own body? This question may sound strange, but for some people (known as mirror-sensory synaesthetes) sharing the physical experiences of others is a very real and vivid way of experiencing the world. In this talk I will discuss work examining the prevalence, characteristics and mechanisms that contribute to mirror-sensory synaesthesia. I will consider why mirror-sensory synaesthesia happens and what it can tell us about how we all share and understand the experiences of others.
